Braces

Braces are the original orthodontic method, but they have come a long way. Today’s braces are more discreet, comfortable, and efficient than ever before – and are great for all ages.

Braces

How do braces work?

Braces use small brackets affixed to the front of each tooth with a metal archwire running through them and small elastics to hold everything together.

To progress through treatment, you will visit our practice for regular adjustment appointments. At each appointment, Dr Sep will make small bends in your archwires to place targeted pressure on your teeth. This gentle pressure will slowly guide your smile into proper alignment.

Types of braces we offer

At Wired Orthodontics, we have a smile solution for everyone in the family. Here are the types of braces we offer at our practice:

Metal braces

Metal braces are the most traditional orthodontic treatment, but the brackets we use today are extremely small and low profile. This makes them more discreet and more comfortable to wear.

Metal braces are the most cost-effective orthodontic option and they are extremely reliable at treating even complex orthodontic issues.

Cosmetic braces

Some patients want traditional treatment with an aesthetic finish – that’s why we also offer cosmetic braces for our patients. The brackets of cosmetic braces are made from a clear ceramic that blends in with the colour of your teeth.

Cosmetic braces are stain-resistant, so they will maintain discretion throughout your treatment. They are just as reliable as traditional metal braces and provide a great alternative for our more self-conscious patients.

Invisible braces

If you are looking for a truly discreet option, we also offer invisible braces, also known as Invisalign® treatment. These are removable braces instead of fixed braces, so you can take them out for meals and regular brushing and flossing.

Invisalign® clear aligners are completely transparent, so no one needs to know about your treatment. They are also custom-made for your precise smile for exacting results.

When should I start using braces?

There is no age limit for when to start using braces. Generally speaking, the easiest time to use braces is when you have all your adult teeth but your jaw is still growing. This is why the ages between 11 and 15 are such a popular time to start braces.

That being said, we can achieve beautiful results for our adult patients, and even some young children can benefit from early treatment with braces.

The importance of an early consultation

The Australian Society of Orthodontics (ASO) recommends children visit a Specialist Orthodontist for an assessment starting from age eight. While your child’s teeth and jaws are still growing, we can assess their smile and look for any signs they may need treatment

While your child might not need treatment right away, we can monitor the growth of their smile and intervene at the opportune time. Getting ahead of orthodontic issues will prevent them from worsening and make them much faster and easier to treat.

Signs your child could benefit from early treatment

If your child shows signs of any of the following, an orthodontic assessment should be considered:

  • Early loss of baby teeth (before age 5)
  • Late loss of baby teeth
  • Teeth do not meet properly or at all
  • Mouth breathing
  • Front teeth that are crowded
  • Protruding front teeth
  • Biting and/or chewing difficulties
  • Speech impediment
  • Your child’s jaw shifts when he or she opens or closes the mouth
  • Your child is older than five years and still sucks a thumb
